The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is redefining the way musculoskeletal care is delivered across the region with locations throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Spine surgery may be considered for selected neck and back conditions when symptoms are severe, neurologic function is threatened, or appropriate nonsurgical treatment has not provided enough relief.
Most back and neck pain does not require surgery. Surgical consultation may be appropriate for persistent radiating pain, progressive weakness, impaired walking, or symptoms that remain disabling after conservative treatment. New bowel or bladder dysfunction, saddle-area numbness, or rapidly worsening weakness requires emergency evaluation.
Bay Area Orthopaedics’ physicians and staff evaluate both surgical and nonsurgical options and develop recommendations based on the diagnosis, neurologic findings, imaging, health, and personal goals. Procedures may vary by specialist.
